As I’m writing this, I’m sitting at the R&R table at Violand’s Business Planning Retreat. If you’ve never attended this event before, it’s unique and inspiring; a great place to share ideas and plan for the future. Inside a large banquet hall, tables are set up for restoration and cleaning companies to work together to create their business plan for the following year.
Nine months down, two and half to go. Just like that, 2019 is almost over. So I’m curious how you’re spending the last 90 days (really, less than that by the time you read this issue) of the year?
Visiting restoration companies is one of my very favorite parts of my job. Every one I’ve visited has been unique in its own way, and has practices in place that really help brand the company.
We went from heartbroken to happily ever after in a matter of days. I was convinced that the restoration experts didn’t just save our home. They saved our lives.
Guys, I’m really excited about this issue – and it’s truly thanks to some amazing contributors and industry experts who were willing to take the time to craft some solid, educational articles.
This issue marks the fourth anniversary of R&R’s Women in Restoration award, again supported so strongly by Violand Management Associates. Each year we award one deserving restoration diva the top honor out of dozens of nominees. In 2019, nearly 40 women were nominated for the award—and each have at least 10 years of experience in the industry.
I want to tell you about my father-in-law. In 1988, he started his business in his garage with his best friend shortly after high school. He sold that plastics injection molding company several weeks ago, for what I would guess is a handsome sum, and is now just two years from retirement after slowly phasing out of the company.
It’s been a busy weather start to 2019 for restorers across the U.S. In the Northwest, there was the deep freeze; the Midwest has been experiencing record-breaking and deadly flooding and before that some major snow and ice storms; some of the Central States – and Georgia – have seen deadly tornadoes. And that was all just through the month of March.
