One of the great things about Hollywood is that we can watch disaster flicks like Armageddon, 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow knowing that the buildings being destroyed and havoc being wreaked won’t require a real cleanup.

But what if they did?

For instance, superhero flick The Avengers is (Hulk) smashing box office records. And in the film, about the last hour is spent fending off an alien invasion that’s smashing New York City. Then, of course, aside from the alien invasion wreaking its own havoc, you’ve got the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and The Incredible Hulk saving the day and causing even more destruction to the city as they’re blowing up the enemy. The movie got the Kinetic Analysis Corporation, a leading disaster-assessment firm, thinking about how much it would actually cost to repair all the damage incurred in The Avengers.

The results: A whopping $60-70 billion in damages and another $90 billion in clean-up (see the full report here.)

On a side note to the Kinetic Analysis Corporation, it looks like Gotham City is in for a doozy this summer in The Dark Knight Rises. We expect a full disaster assessment for that movie as well.
